About Us

Charles County Children's Aid Society was founded in 1931 in response to the Great Depression. For over 70 years we have provided assistance to families with children in need. As each decade brought different challenges for families, Children's Aid Society adapted and evolved to meet these ever-changing needs. Today we provide a vital link to aid for those individuals experiencing a crisis.

Our primary purpose is to provide emergency assistance to families with children under the age of 18 living in Charles County. This emergency assistance can take the form of food, clothing, personal care items or monetary assistance for temporary/permanent shelter, utilities, medical needs, rent/mortgage, fuel bills, transportation or burial expenses. Our agency assist approximately 10,000 children and families annually.

In addition to these services, special programs continue annually. Our school supply program at the beginning of each school year provides 1000 needy children with the tools they need to begin their school year equal to their classmates. Thanksgiving Baskets are distributed through our office and offer 200 families fantastic holiday meals complete with all the trimmings. Our largest project of the year, Christmas Connection, is a multi-organizational program that provides gifts and food to over 3,000 less fortunate children so they don't go without.

For the past 76 years Children's Aid Society has played a vital role in the lives of Charles County residents. Our mission when we began remains the same today, to truly be a "Friend of a Child."
